How To Get Customers: Marketing for Local Businesses

Are you damn good at what you do, but frustrated because only a small number of people actually know who you are and what you do?


Listen. You can have the most ah-mazing products or service in the market, but if no one knows about it — it’s a flop! After all, no customers = no business.


Marketing can make or break your business. Whether you have a brick and mortar business, or a virtual storefront keep reading to learn five valuable marketing strategies that get more customers in the door.




1. Build your list

If you’re not collecting email addresses on your website, you’re leaving thousands of dollars on the table.


Every business needs a way to stay in touch with prospects and customers. Since most people have email addresses, building an email list is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to reach an audience.


I recommend local businesses to start collecting email addresses and birthdays on their website and in store. You can set up your email management system (preferably MailChimp because it’s free for your first 2,000 subscribers) to send emails on your customers birthday to redeem special offers.


Get creative with promotional offers— there’s so much you can do with email marketing that will dramatically increase your business!


2. Partner with other local businesses.

Make a list of strategic partners in your area and get your hu$tle on!


Set at least 3 appointments each week to meet with other business owners and form genuine relationships because they’ll either want your product/service or know someone else who does.

And don’t forget… get them on your list!



3. Advertise

Once you get your opt-in up and running, consider testing facebook ads to attract locals. Make a special offer for new subscribers only.


4. Use Social Proof

Are people raving about your business? Add customer reviews to your website!


It’s a great way to build trust with potential customers. People often look for endorsements from others before trying out a new product or service. C’mon I can’t possibly be the only person that reads Amazon reviews before making a purchase.


5. Highlight what makes you unique

Seems like everyone is doing the same thing these days.


But your power is in your individuality! Bring your creative twist on a product or service to the marketplace so you don’t get lost in a sea of samsies. Just like a fingerprint, no two are the same. Be YOU.
